All CBD brands are not created equally. This is the case that consumers are seeing when purchasing legal CBD products. The problem with labeling is accountability. Just because a label says a product is one thing it doesn’t mean that it’s not entirely something else. Recently Virginia Commonwealth University conducted a test on 7 different Diamond CBD products.
This is Not CBD
Diamond CBD is owned by Pot Network Holdings. The study was conducted based upon a concerned citizens report of possible product mislabeling. The products tested revealed some nasty results. One of the worse, was that Diamond CBD contained F5 -ADB, a synthetic cannabinoid often found in spice or the street drug called K2.
On top of this dangerous and deadly synthetic cannabinoid, the so-called CBD product contains DXM or dextromethorphan. DXM is commonly used in cough medicine and has a track record of health hazards and recreational abuse.
Is There CBD in Diamond CBD Products or Just Melatonin?
As if this wasn’t enough to discourage consumers from purchasing CBD products from this company or others, the Diamond CBD that was supposed to contain a splash or dash of melatonin ended up being mostly melatonin with a splash or dash of CBD. The Diamond CBD tested by Virginia Commonwealth University was designed to induce mind altering effects or create an intoxicating buzz, none of which a real CBD product should do.
Researchers from VCU pointed out that Diamond CBD website tells potential customers that their products are 100% natural lab tested CBD extracts and they do not contain any synthetic chemicals. According to the studies conducted by VCU, there is a significant discrepancy between what their website says about their product and what their product is.
Diamond Retests and Sees No Problem
After the study was released in November, the CEO of Diamond announced they would retest products. According to Diamond, their tests indicated no presence of DXM or F5-ADB. Diamond’s CEO told Leafly the products in the Virginian study appeared to have been purchased back in 2017. Products then I guess allowed these dangerous and deadly chemicals because Diamond CEO told Leafly formulas were different then.
As you can see all CBD products are not created equally. So, if you’re considering purchasing Diamond CBD, it looks like you’d be better off to buy some melatonin. The company’s lab results showed that melatonin was the major constituent in the product instead of CBD anyways, so why waste your money on a shady company’s product?
