Cannabis is officially legal for recreational consumption, possession, and cultivation in Michigan. That doesn’t mean that residents in Michigan can buy cannabis though. It could be several years before residents in Michigan are able to purchase their cannabis and cannabis products legally. This could present a problem for some cannabis consumers in the state of Michigan but not for many. As long as you have a connection or know somebody, you’re good to go. Most cannabis consumers have this connection or know somebody who is planning to grow their own.
The new law will allow residents to possess and transport as much as 2.5 oz of cannabis. Included in that 2.5 oz is up to 15 grams of cannabis concentrates. In non-public places such as a private residence, people can legally have up to 10 oz and can grow 12 plants to maturity. Public consumption of cannabis is still strictly illegal while so is operating a vehicle after consuming cannabis.
All Hope Isn’t Lost if You Don’t Grow Your Own
Family and friends are able to gift cannabis in the state of Michigan. This is a big plus since sales have yet to begin. Michigan lawmakers are not likely to delay implementing retail cannabis stores for recreational sales as they are missing out on millions of dollars every month.
The state of Michigan is set to become one of the largest adult consumer cannabis markets in America. Some people think it could take as long as two years before recreational dispensaries open though leaving people only a few choices to obtain their stash legally. However, others predict it won’t be too long before residents in Michigan can go to a dispensary to buy cannabis to fill their papers, blunts, and bongs.
Congratulations Michigan on saying yes to cannabis! We can’t wait to report that retail sales have begun in the state when that time comes. For now, though, if you are over 21, we say smoke em if you got em!
