Budweiser is eyeballing the bud. Budweiser’s makers have gone and done it now. Everyone knows that Coors Brewing Company is looking into cannabis-infused beverages. In particularly they are looking at CBD infused beverages. It’s no secret that this will be a multi-billion-dollar industry upon legalization. Many businesses aren’t waiting around for U.S. lawmakers to get it together. They’re taking their billions of investment dollars and going to Canada with them.
Budweiser Just Bought Into Cannabis
That’s precisely what Budweiser did when they recently struck a deal with Canadian cannabis giant Tilray. Budweiser partnered with Tilray, a medical cannabis company in Canada through a 100 million dollar deal. They’ll be researching the Canadian market & cannabis-infused beverages. Just imagine, this hundred million dollar investment could have gone to support much-needed jobs in America. Instead, these investors took their money to a legal market.
Budweiser Isn’t the First or the Only
Budweiser is not the first. Molson Coors, Marlboro, and other mega giants have started showing their interest in the cannabis space by doing more than just talking about it. They’ve invested billions of dollars already in this budding sector. With the news of the deal between Tilray and ABInbev the owners of Budweiser saw their stock remain the same while Tilray saw an increase of 13% in just a few hours. People weren’t making investments in alcohol, they were investing in cannabis.
Déjà vu?
The same thing happened recently when Altria purchased a significant portion of the Cronos Group LTD. Altria stock didn’t climb, but Cronos stock did. Tilray is a major cannabis cultivation company based out of British Columbia with cannabis products available in 12 countries. They have operations in Germany, Portugal, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.
The U.S. is Falling Behind
The rest of the world is capitalizing on cannabis while the United States of America falls behind clinging to its draconian past. When will American lawmakers wake up? Perhaps, with an iconic American beer company such as the one behind Budweiser taking an interest in this sector, they may finally open their eyes and have a change of heart regarding cannabis prohibition.
