Legal adult use cannabis has been a success in Massachusetts so far. The state may have taken quite a bit of time to open the doors for recreational cannabis dispensaries, but the people are happy. When legal cannabis was first sold in Massachusetts, there were only two dispensaries the public could purchase from. In the first week of business these two dispensaries raked in more than 2.2 million dollars in recreational cannabis sales. This averaged out to about $220,000 per day in cannabis sales per dispensary.
The success doesn’t stop there for recreational adult use cannabis in Massachusetts. The Cannabis Control Commission for the state of Massachusetts approved four more retail cannabis shops. This means in a short amount of time adults with a valid state identification who are 21 or over will have more options and locations to purchase adult use recreational cannabis in Massachusetts. Recreational cannabis consumers can expect to see four new cannabis dispensaries opening in Hudson, Pittsfield, Fall River, and Great Barrington.
The Path to Success Started in 2016
Back in 2016 when adult use cannabis was legalized no one would have imagined that it would have taken two years for recreational cannabis dispensaries to open their doors. Hopefully, as more states legalize cannabis, they’ll learn from these processes making it a smoother and faster transition. Recreational cannabis has shown great success in helping generate much-needed tax dollars for states as well as reducing violent crimes and the staggering opioid addiction and overdose rates.
