New Zealand could be the next country to legalize recreational adult use cannabis. In 2020 New Zealanders are voting on a referendum in the general election to legalize recreational cannabis. The referendum is one of the promises Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s Labour Party made in 2017. When this party won the election, it put an end to a 9-year conservative National Party rule. Should the vote pass in 2020 New Zealand would become the first Asian Pacific country allowing recreational cannabis in a market where it is widely still against the law.
Thailand Just Legalized Medical Cannabis
Medical cannabis is making significant progress and looking like it will become legal in Thailand. If if does it will be the first Asian country to have legal medical cannabis. Currently, Spain, the Netherlands, Canada, and 10 states in the United States of America have legalized cannabis for recreational consumption. 33 states in America have also legalized cannabis for medical consumption. In addition, Washington DC the nation’s capital has both recreational and medical cannabis. Last week New Zealand lawmakers passed a medical cannabis law joining so many others in allowing medical freedom for their citizens.

Draconian marijuana prohibition began with the United States of America during an attempt to control and dominate minorities. This effort made by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration is now evident. This is thanks to the research available today. Upon the realization of how draconian, racist and sexist cannabis prohibition is many countries are choosing to adopt favorable cannabis reform laws. Not to mention countries that are finding themselves in a financial struggle are looking at the opportunities of financial freedom and stability the cannabis industry offers. It looks like New Zealand will be seeing perfect vision in 20/20 if they legalized recreational adult use cannabis.
