Who knows when the World Health Organization is going to finish evaluating the evidence it’s collected on cannabis. Many people anticipated that WHO would make an announcement before the end of the year regarding cannabis rescheduling. The WHO had planned on presenting their report at the Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna. Unfortunately, they were unable to do so. Officials from governments around the globe were in attendance. Perhaps to be witness to a historical moment? Little did they know WHO would blow the situation off saying they require more time.
“The fact that the recommendations weren’t made today as expected could mean that when the time comes to decide what to do with the recommendations in March, it will be easier for certain countries to argue that they didn’t have enough time to review the inputs to have a position, possibly delaying the process once again.”- Bruno Javier Faraone
A Failed War of Draconian Times
The war on drugs is one that is failing miserably. It is hurting people around the world more than than it is helping. Now the pressure is on for the UN to change its draconian policies pertaining to cannabis. Cannabis remains illegal in many places in the United States and other countries around the world. At the same time the World Health Organization released a report saying that marijuana was a relatively safe drug that causes no significant health issues. Yet countless people are still arrested, incarcerated and have their lives ruined over this plant and its culture.
When the United Nations makes the much-needed changes to their draconian, outdated cannabis laws, countries around the world will benefit. Cannabis not only offers the ability to improve the health and healthcare system of countries substantially but also to offer future generational wealth for generations to come. The beginning of a green future for cannabis is waiting for the right recommendations from, you know who, the World Health Organization (WHO).
