Pretoria is helping bring cannabis from the grey to the green by hosting the first cannabis expo in the country. The expo featured sides of the cannabis industry such as cultivation tents and irrigation units. Booths at the expo showcased nutrients, clothing, and cannabis ancillary services. In September of 2018, the African government decriminalized cannabis to some degree. It still remains illegal to sell or grow cannabis for commercial production. Perhaps this will change as the view on cannabis prohibition shifts towards finally ending it. There are going to be two more cannabis expos in Africa this year. Reportedly one in Cape Town and one in Durban.
It’s More Than Just Getting High
Africa is a country stricken by poverty and a country that is struggling economically. Legal cannabis could help change that for Africa. The cannabis industry is already a multi-billion-dollar one, and it’s continuously growing. Often when people think about cannabis, they think of the intoxicating plant containing THC. Hemp is cannabis too, only it doesn’t have enough THC to produce any intoxicating effects. What it does have is CBD. CBD is what many cannabis companies are focusing on. Companies like Cannabis Energy Drinks which featured a booth at the cannabis expo in Africa.
The Strain That Could Bring Fame for Cannabis in Africa
Africa has a unique strain of cannabis that they could capitalize significantly on. It’s a landrace cannabis strain (landrace means that it has not been crossed with anything else) by the name of Durban Poison. Don’t let the last part of its name fool you, it isn’t poisonous. Durban Poison is a landrace sativa cannabis strain that is reported to help consumers with weight loss and exercise, amongst many other things. The decades-old draconian marijuana prohibition imposed and influenced by the United States of America is finally coming to an end. The world is waking up to the truths about cannabis and see all the lies that have been told about this plant for the last 80 years. It appears that Africa is showing their support of the plant and joining the rest of the world in accepting this billion dollar industry.
