A raid recently unfolded in Winterton on Earlsgate where authorities found 134 cannabis plants in an illegal cannabis grow. During this raid, the arrest of an unnamed 23-year-old occurred. When police entered the property for the raid they had to leave within a short time. There was an abundance of growing equipment and electrical work in question that made it potentially hazardous for authorities.
In order to solidify the safety of the officers and others in the community authorities contacted the electricity board to make sure the house was safe before conducting a full investigation. The raid and arrest of this 23-year-old for growing cannabis came from community reports of drugs being manufactured at the address. The warrant to conduct the raid was approved by the Court at Grimsby under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
Cannabis Grows Are NOT the Problem
This is basically the story reported by Grimsby Live. Minus some fear-mongering and repetition that is. The angle this story took is one that makes this 23-year-old out to be a dangerous criminal. Growing cannabis, isn’t much different than growing vegetables in your home, if done responsibly. The only negative side of a home cannabis grow occurs when an individual is just careless, this is typically when shady electrical work occurs. Reporting of this nature gives cannabis grows a bad reputation. It continues the support of draconian marijuana prohibition that the world has faced over the last eight decades.
Laws that many view as outdated have the potential to destroy the life of the young man arrested in Winterton. Yes, he broke the law, but the law that was being broken is a draconian one based on greed and control. Cannabis is strong with stigma in places globally. It wasn’t always this confusing. Cannabis was part of pharmacopeias around the globe for centuries before the beginning of its prohibition in the early 1900s.
The Greedy Cycle
Why would something that was used globally by virtually every culture on the planet become illegal? The answer is greed, power, and control. Just look at those who have profited off of cannabis prohibition. Pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies, private prisons, and law enforcement agencies are just some of those who make impressive amounts of money thanks for cannabis prohibition.
Pharmaceutical companies would rather you be on their narcotic painkillers and antidepressants while insurance companies reap the benefits. As people become addicted to these dangerous narcotics, they start to do things they normally wouldn’t do that often times lands them in the hands of law enforcement agencies. Law enforcement agencies are able to seize people’s assets at will over cannabis. Next comes incarceration into the state government and private prison systems. As you can see one person can be quite profitable.
What some see as successfully removing a criminal from the streets other see as terrorizing a citizen over a victimless crime. While the focus in so many places is fear-mongering regarding cannabis the real demon still runs rampant. That demon is big pharma and their supporters with their opioid epidemic reaching every corner of the globe. Fentanyl and tramadol made in China and India are infecting virtually every continent on the planet. Perhaps news stories like this warrant more coverage than the bust of a cannabis grow.
